Formal letter of Apology

Dear {Recipient}

Please accept this letter as my formal apology for what happened on {location, event, issue, etc…} on {MM/DD/YYYY}.

It was not my intention to cause any damage or inconvenience. In retrospect, I believe the situation resulted from {cause}. While this is by no means an excuse for {my behavior, what happened, etc…}, knowing the cause will help me guard against future mistakes.

Again, I am sorry for what happened. If you would like to continue this conversation, please feel free to call me at {phone}. I look forward to hearing from you and putting this matter behind us.

Sample Apology Letter

Dear {Receiver}

I’m so very sorry for what happened the other day. You know me: I would never intentionally do something like that if I knew that it would end up being a {hurtful, embarrassing, awkward, etc…} situation.

I can’t say what made me do something so silly. Perhaps I just have a very flawed sense of humor or my terrible read of situations. Whatever the cause for my bad behavior, it was inexcusable.

Hopefully, this will be one of things we look back to and laugh. Until then, I’m willing to do everything I can to make it up to you! Please get back to me whenever you have a moment and we can talk about it.

Apology Letter For Hurt Feelings

Dear {Recipient},

Let me begin with, “I’m sorry.”

I’m sorry for {state action}. I can see that my behavior and attitude was hurtful and totally unnecessary. You did not deserve to be on the receiving end of my actions.

I am normally not like this. While I am not excusing myself from my {unprofessional/immature} actions, I believe I acted the way I did because of my {fatigue, bad day, etc…}.

I hope we can continue to {work together, maintain our friendship, etc…}. If you have any thoughts on this matter, please feel free to contact me at {phone/email}.

Apology Letter for Mistake

Dear {Recipient}

I owe {you, institution, the team, company, etc…} a sincere apology for {state situation}.

It was never my intention to create such an awkward and uncomfortable situation. I hope that I can be of assistance in correcting my mistake and resolving the matter.

While I have caused this unpleasant experience, I am able to see where I went wrong. {State the cause of the mistake if possible}. I believe acquiring this insight will allow me to learn and grow and prevent similar issues in the future.

Please feel free to let me of your thoughts and concerns over this matter. You can reach me at {email, phone number}.

Apologize Letter for Not Attending

Hi {Receiver},

I’m really sorry for missing out on {event}!

I actually wanted to go, but I {reason for not going}. It probably isn’t a very good excuse, considering how important this event was to you. But don’t worry; I don’t plan on missing the next one. Even though I wasn’t there this time, you can always count on me to have your back in the future.

And judging from what people have said, it sounds like I totally missed out. I would really love to go to the next one if you’ll have me.

Apology Letter for Behavior

Dear {Recipient}

Please allow me to apologize for what I {said, did, etc…} on {day of week}. My behavior was extremely inappropriate, immature, and lacked the respect {you, organization} deserved. It was a disruption and distracted others from {doing their job, learning, etc…}.

It was embarrassing, but I learned that nobody appreciated my poor behavior. In the future, I have every intention of curbing my thoughtless actions and learn to adjust my behavior befitting the environment and situation.

Again, I am sorry for my actions and I hope that we can put this matter behind us. I look forward to {working, learning from, etc…} you {again/soon}. If you have any thoughts in this, please feel free to share. You may contact me at your convenience at {email/phone}.

Letter of Apology for Delay

Hi {Receiver},

I know that it was very important that {I am on time/send you the prerequisite materials}, and I’m very sorry for {not being on time/missing the deadline}.

I ran into trouble when {reason for delay}. I mismanaged my time and wrongly prioritized other matters over {this one/project}.

In the future, I will exercise better organization to ensure that I am more punctual. I’ll also make sure to keep you up to date on my status in case I encounter any unforeseen difficulties.

If you can offer additional insight or suggestions as to how to improve my punctuality {on projects}, I am willing to listen and learn. You can reach me at {phone/email}.

Letter of Apology to a Teacher

Dear {Mr./Ms. Last Name}

I deeply regret my actions on {day of week} and would like to offer my sincere apologies for the incident.

What I did was inexcusable, childish, distracting and disrespectful. You, as well my fellow students and {school} deserve better from me.

In the future, I will practice more restraint and professionalism so as not to repeat the lapse of judgment I displayed.

I value your commitment to instructing and guiding me to success. If you would like to discuss this further, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
